19th Century Italian Walnut Console Table
An Early 19th Century Italian Walnut Console Table with Marble Top.
This fine Italian console or side table stands on four turned legs with giltwood mouldings to the collars and with simpler gilded mouldings used at other points as they descend towards the feet. There is also a giltwood moulding on the frieze of the table and in the centre of the frieze is an excellent ormolu Apollo mask mount. The table frame supports an exceptional veneered marble top, the veneers having been bookmatched to create an attractive and unusual veined design. The marble is likely to be Portoro marble. A contrasting marble border has been inlaid on to the edge of the top, framing the central panel.
