Large 19th Century English Mahogany Library Table
A Large 19th Century English Mahogany Library or Writing Table with Marble Top.
An excellent, substantial sized table, having a black marble top supported by two ends, carved with lotus flower detailing and joined by a turned central stretcher. The carving and the variety of turnings used on the stretcher are signs of high quality workmanship. It is unusual to find marble tops on tables of this sort.
Although it has not been possible to attribute this piece to a particular maker, it does have pronounced similarities with some of the published designs by William Smee and Sons of 1850 and is certainly of a level of quality that we would expect to have been produced by a major workshop of the time.
