18th Century English George III Hepplewhite Mahogany Sofa
A fine late 18th century English George III mahogany sofa of generous proportions and particularly good quality.
The shaped upholstered back flows into elegantly swept arms, above a notably deep and comfortable seat. The exposed mahogany frame is finely carved, with foliate decoration and carved paterae to the leg blocks, raised on tapering legs terminating in brass castors.
The quality of the carving and unusually generous depth set this sofa apart from more commonly encountered examples of the period.
Recently upholstered in a simple striped linen.
