18th Century Italian Rococo Carved Giltwood Armchair
Of northern Italian origin, most likely Venetian, this chair is a great example of gilded rococo seat furniture. The cartouche-shaped back is ornamented with swagged cresting and central motif and the scrolling arms are beautifully proportioned. The seat rail has a further echo of the swag motif and then four cabriole legs support the chair, all terminating in hoof form feet. The chair has been stripped to its under finish
