19th Century English Regency Rosewood Centre Table
A 19th Century English Regency Rosewood Centre Table, Probably by William Trotter of Edinburgh.
This circular centre table has a tilt top mechanism allowing it to stand at the side of a room when not in use. The top is veneered in beautifully figured bookmatched rosewood and it has finely carved winged scroll feet and conforming trusses above on the base, surrounded by gadrooning. The top of the table is widely crossbanded in coromandel.
The carving on this table suggests that it was made in Edinburgh by William Trotter, Gillows' leading competitor in the north of Britain at the time. Pieces by Trotter were supplied to many important houses and families and the quality of his work is always very high.
This is a lovely table that stands beautifully and is very elegant.
