19th Century George IV English Regency Mahogany Sideboard

SOLD
A High Quality Late Regency or George IV Mahogany and Ebonised Pedestal Sideboard.

This is an excellent example of a pedestal sideboard, produced towards the end of the first quarter of the 19th century. It has a combination of ebonised mouldings on a mahogany background and also features several carved details including the paw feet and applied anthemion carving to the centre of the frieze. There are also leaf carved elements to the top of the pilasters framing each of the pedestals.

Designed in the inverted breakfront manner, the two pedestals being set forward compared to the central drawers and frieze. Having a thick top which has a cockbeaded moulding in the centre. Each drawer front and the front of each pedestal cupboard has an identical cockbeaded moulding. The sides have inlaid ebonised stringing. The cupboard doors are fully panelled to the backs as well as the fronts and inside one cupboard is a shelf, and the other a deep removable drawer.

A sophisticated and beautifully designed example of sideboard that is influenced by the designs of George Smith, one of the great figures in regency design.

The piece has acquired a fine colour and patination throughout.
