18th Century French Cherrywood Serpentine Commode
An 18th Century French Cherrywood Serpentine Commode with Marble Top.
This commode is a restrained example of the French rococo, having serpentine front but straight, panelled sides. Executed throughout in cherrywood, with good quality timbers on the drawer fronts. The piece has a shaped marble top with a moulded edge that follows the shape of the commode below. The apron is shaped and moulded. Standing on carved hoof feet and is mounted in ormolu on the shaped sides. The drawer pulls and escutcheon plates are also of ormolu.
