SOLD
An Interesting 18th Century French Louis XVI Period Walnut and Parquetry Commode.
This fine commode with its rectangular lines, ormolu escutcheons featuring swags and bows and tapering square sectioned legs. What makes this piece very different are the wonderful high quality parquetry panels inlaid on each drawer front, on each side and in one large panel to the top. Each panel has a central star design created out of smaller diamond shaped pieces of contrasting light and dark woods and they are beautifully inlaid. Creating panels of this complexity and size would have been very time-consuming and they are true masterpieces of their sort.
This is a very attractive and unusual piece of furniture.
