19th Century English Rosewood Daybed
A 19th Century English Regency Rosewood Daybed
This unusual daybed or chaise longue has a three quarter length back. The two supports are enriched with both leaf carved detail and fine brass inlay and they terminate in reeded feet with oak leaf carved collars. The feet retain their original castors. The rosewood used throughout is of excellent quality and figure. It has been upholstered to an under-finish ready for the client's choice of final fabric.
This daybed is highly reminiscent of those produced by Gillows in this period, particularly in their Oxford Street, London workshops rather than those in Lancaster. The combination of excellent quality carving and the tasteful brass inlay, along with the use of exotic rosewood, would have made this an extremely expensive piece to commission.
