19th Century French Mahogany Bureau Plat
An Excellent Quality 19th Century French Mahogany Bureau Plat with Ormolu Detailing.
A very good quality French writing table or bureau plat with ormolu mounts running around the edge of the writing surface and flanking the corners of the frieze. The frieze mounts in the form of naturalistic swags of drapery suspended through rings which are quite exceptional. There are three drawers in the front with ormolu drawer pulls of superb quality. The sides of the piece are panelled.
The leather writing surface is original and retains most of its original gilt tooling to the edges which is particularly elaborate and finely executed. There are pull out writing slides to each end, also with original leather in superb patinated condition.
A lovely bureau plat, likely made by a leading Parisian workshop.
