19th Century English Regency Bookcase
An Unusual 19th Century English Regency Mahogany Bookcase/Side Cabinet with Brass Mounts with Marble Top.
This unusual open bookcase or side cabinet is mounted throughout with brass mouldings around the shelves and upper and lower aprons. It also retains its original marble top. Divided into a series of large pigeon holes or compartments which could be used to display books and objects. Further signs of quality include the panelled back, always a sign that a cabinetmaker has taken extra care in constructing a piece, and the use of six feet rather than the more usual four. The feet are turned and taper from top to bottom with a series of flattened bobbins.
This cabinet is very unusual and was most likely produced as a bespoke commission rather than as a stock item.
