18th Century English Walnut Chest of Drawers
SOLD
An 18th Century English Walnut Chest of Drawers c.1700
This handsome chest is executed throughout in figured walnut. The sides and top are widely crossbanded, creating a mock panelled effect, and the top is also chevron banded and has a central pattern created by quartering veneers and laying them geometrically. The chest consists of five graduated drawers. Two smaller drawers at the top and then three larger ones beneath, with plate handles and their accompanying escutcheon plates. The chest stands on four flattened bun feet.
This piece retains a fine colour throughout, the drawer fronts being particularly decorative as they combine cock beading with fine timber which has attained a lovely patination. This is a fine example of a very early 18th century chest of drawers of the most desirable colour.
