An Exceptional Late 18th Century Italian Giltwood Console/Side Table with Original Marble Top.
This lovely table epitomises the elegance of late 18th century Italian furniture. The table has its original gilding throughout with the frieze having beautiful applied carving. Sunflower paterae to the blocks, swags of harebells and bows and then a central tablet with a carved and beautifully rendered in deep relief head. Above these carvings, which are all placed upon a pounced ground, is a simple beaded moulding and below the carvings is a repetitive leaf carved detail. This floral theme extends to the sunflower paterae and also to further leaf carving on the upper and lower collars of the turned and fluted legs. The legs terminate in toupie feet.
The top is thick, Nero Portoro marble - black with pronounced veins of orange running throughout, having a moulded edge and is original.
A very refined neoclassical side table..
