19th Century Lacewood Side Cabinet
SOLD
A 19th Century Lacewood Side Cabinet of Unusual Form, Possibly Channel Islands or Scottish in Origin.
Of rounded breakfront form, this cabinet combines two side banks of small drawers with a central bank of longer ones that are graduated. The piece stands on ebonised bun feet, attached to everted, rounded pilasters which descend from the frieze. These pilasters are very much in the manner of those used by Gillows. The drawers are inlaid with walnut stringing. This piece combines an unusual form with very unusual woods and is likely to be the result of a bespoke commission.
Pieces of furniture of this sort were recorded at Cowden Castle in Scotland and it is quite possible that this piece was also made in Scotland or the Channel Islands.
A very decorative cabinet veneered in exotic timber which has a contemporary look to it due to the original, faded mellow colour and fine surfaces.
