A Fine Pair of Early 19th Century Italian Walnut Bedside Cupboards or Night Tables.
These beautiful cupboards are rectangular in shape but with everted column corners to the front. Unusually, however, the columns are composed of various ring mouldings which decrease in width from top to bottom of the frieze, creating a sort of tapering cone effect. These mouldings also continue around the front and side friezes but in simpler straight line form. The columns continue down the sides of each column, gradually widening out again. The columns then terminate in acorn-shaped feet.
In the centre of each cupboard is a finely panelled door with flamed walnut veneers of lovely figure and great colour. Around these panels is an interesting studded or diamond-shaped moulding of large scale.
The cupboards have a lovely colour and the veneers used throughout are of excellent quality and have plenty of unusual detailing.
