Late George IV/Early William IV Mahogany Pedestal Sideboard
SOLD
A late George IV/early William IV mahogany pedestal sideboard in the Regency classical taste in the manner of gillows c.1830
Of finely figured mahogany with panelled detailing and carved beaded mouldings. These mouldings are typical of those used by Gillows during this period. The piece stands on flattened bun feet, thus suggesting that this piece dates to the very end of the George IV period when feet of this pattern were first introduced.
The form of this piece is strongly neoclassical with the pedestals taking the form of stylised sarcophagi. Ornament is kept to a minimum with this piece relying on the beautifully matched veneers for most of its decorative effect.
