English Oak and Leather Porters Chair

A unique English oak and leather porters chair in superb and untouched condition. The domed top has carved patterned work to the fringe with scrolls, and consists of six external oak panels. The oak frame with the domed canopy top is typical of the form but unusual in shape. The interior with leather upholstery, having bold brass studding detail and an embossed crest bearing the inscription 'nil desperandum' (never despair). The seat is also leather. Below are two panelled cupboard doors with pull handles.
