Pair of Italian Painted and Gilded Armchairs c.1900

A Pair of Italian Painted and Gilded Armchairs c.1900.

These lovely chairs were produced at the turn of the 20th century in Italy and retain their original blue and gilt colour scheme with carved detailing. They are of large scale and impressive depth and have been upholstered to an under finish, ready for the client's choice of final outer covering or could be left as-is for a contemporary look. The chairs stand on four short cabriole legs with scroll feet and have shell knees. The highlights on the legs are all picked out in gilt. The front rails are centred by a stylised rocaille shell with floral borders. Apart from the high relief carving, the background has been carved with repeating diamond and dot patterns in low relief. This same treatment is also repeated on the head rails.

They hold great presence and are large in size.
